Featuring an ADSL modem, router and 4-port Ethernet switch, the NB5580W can easily connect 4 wired devices directly into the ports and in combination with switching equipment can support up to 253 users.

- Active Firewall: advanced firewall technology called Stateful Packet Inspection checks every packet of data that comes in ensuring your defences are rock-solid against hackers, unauthorised entries, probes and Denial of service attacks. It also has IP Address MAC address and keyword filtering.
- VPN Endpoints: the WNB550W can support up to 5 VPN tunnels for secure connection to the network from an outside location. Virtual Private Networking (VPN) is the ability to create a secure connection between two computers over a public network. The most common use for VPN is for a mobile sales worker to create a secure connection to their corporate network using the Internet to access e-mail, download or upload files to the network etc.
- DMZ: the WNB5580W also comes with a Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) which creates a segregated area from the rest of the network to run a web or email server. This ensures that outside users accessing information on the web server from the Internet will not be able to access the Local Area Network.
- WEP and WPA Wireless Security: to ensure that the wireless network remains secure from outside users, the wireless access point features 64/128-bit Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) security and the even more powerful Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) wireless security protocols.
- Web-based configuration and administration: the WNB5580W can be easily and configured and administration settings altered through a web browser.
